LG U+’s Yongsan Office Building, Seoul (2015)

The double-deck elevator at LG U+'s Yongsan office building is the first of its kind to be installed in a regular building in Korea, with a high-speed model of 240 meters per minute and a power recovery inverter that reuses energy generated during operation. The double-deck elevator is a state-of-the-art product that operates two floors simultaneously by connecting two elevators up and down on a single hoistway, and is effective for high-rise buildings with a large flow of people because it has twice the operating efficiency, and has the advantage of increasing the usable area of the building by reducing the number of hoistways. It is also equipped with a special technology called the Automatic Floor Distance Adjustable Device, which allows it to operate even if the height between floors is different, a special hoisting machine that can lift two cars up and down at once, and technology to control the vibration, noise, and air pressure generated during operation, which are much more complex than ordinary elevators. Double-deck elevators are highly technical, with only about five companies in the world possessing the technology, and are currently in low numbers, with only about 600 units installed worldwide, but long-term demand is expected to increase in high-rise buildings.
